Producer
Owned by the Martinez Verdu family for five generations, the bodega owns 200 hectares of vineyards in the far north-east of Jumilla at around 800 metres altitude. The very dry sandy soil inhibits phylloxera and allows the vines to grow on their own roots. An ultra-modern winery was built in 2006 and Jose Maria started to make and bottle wines under their own label and now there are eight different interpretations of Monastrell produced, along with a small amount of white wine based around Moscatel. The unusual name is an amalgamation of parts of Martinez’ three daughter’s names Xenia, Nydia and Selene
Winemaking
The grapes are destemmed and the vinification process is carried out in stainless steel tanks for 15 days with a maximum temperature of 26º C. Early bottled
Tasting Note
Deep coloured with notes of raisin, blackberry and mocha. The palate has great depth of rich fruit and a smoky earthy quality. Full and ripe tannins frame the finish
